The CHS Special Services Department lost several teachers this past year; but it has added some valuable new faces who are revitalizing the program and its direction. Under the direction of Mrs. Judianna Turner (Department Chairperson), the teachers are offering assistance to students who are pursuing high school diplomas.
Many students are following and meeting requirements for earning IBC's (Industry-Based Certification) for First Aid/AED/CPR, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, NCCER Core, and OSHA. Although they will not earn all of these endorsements this year, students will be working toward them during 2015-2016 and the upcoming school years.
The implementation of Act 833 guarantees that students will have every opportunity to earn a high school diploma while receiving the accommodations they need to be successful. Teachers who are working within the department and with the CHS staff to ensure that this instruction takes place include the following:
Gultery, Brandon --- areas of strength include Business and Mathematics
Harris-Isaac --- area of strength includes work with Low Incidence students
Heisler, Willie --- area of strength includes English
Howard-Robinson, Monica --- area of strength includes Social Studies
Hunter, Nikki --- area of strength includes Adapted Physical Education and working with students to prepare for competition in Special Olympics
Turner, Judianna --- area of strength includes Science
Wancewicz, Vivian --- area of strength includes Speech Therapy
These teachers can be found all over the campus as they work with classroom teachers to provide the accommodations and modifications in instruction needed to ensure that their students become graduates of Carroll High School.
